From his humble beginnings,
Dr. Toby Malichi overcame tremendous odds to
become a successful, self-made international
entrepreneur, with expertise in establishing
trade diplomacy, deal making, facilitating,
marketing, global speaking, and creating
strategic partnerships on a global scale. He has
been one of the most successful speakers and
consultants in the world teaching his “Malichi
Model” for leadership and helping others
understand the “How to” in International Trade.
His success was proven through the over 600,000
copies of his video on success that were sold by
PBS and through Success Magazine.
Dr. Malichi grew up in a
single-parent household, the oldest of five
children, without a father. Becoming a single
parent himself, Dr. Malichi through
self-determination, committed his life to
helping raise his five children.
Dr. Malichi is a world-renown
business leader, speaker, and dealmaker. He
began his career working for General Motors -- a
lifelong dream he possessed and then realized
through tenacity and hard work.
Toby Malichi holds the
distinction of being one of the youngest
district managers in the history of General
Motors Corporation (GM). And, is a graduate of
GM’s School of Management and Marketing. During
his tenure, Dr. Malichi survived a near fatal
car accident and spent several months in a
critical care burn unit. His superior
performance, while managing 14 franchise dealer
organizations, exceeded corporate sales,
marketing, and business development goals that
generated annual revenue gains of more than $70
million, and earned him the prestigious
GM/Chevrolet Motor Division Leader’s Ring.
A talented athlete and
drummer. Dr. Malichi graduated from high school
with honors, after being scouted to play
professional baseball by the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Dr. Malichi, in retrospect, made the most
important decision to his life - to attend
Vincennes University on a state academic
scholarship. Dr. Malichi graduated from
Vincennes University in 1970, with an A.S.
degree in Computer Science, and then attended
Indiana University to study business. Malichi
was bestowed with an Honorary Doctorate Degree
of Business from Vincennes University on April
30, 2005.
A deal maker in the global
marketplace, specializes in structuring,
facilitating, and marketing, deals for
individuals, governments, foreign governments,
and businesses from various trade sectors, that
seek strategic partnerships, market access, and
investment facilitation. In November 2004, he
was invited by the President Bush to attend The
White House Economic Summit. During the 1999
World Trade Organization (WTO) Ministerial
Conference, Tom Donohue, President and Chief
Executive Officer to the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce, among other distinguished business and
political leaders, honored Dr. Malichi for his
many contributions to International Trade as a
Small Business Leader.
Dr. Malichi is an
internationally-recognized expert by the United
Nations and the U.S. Department of Commerce, for
his expertise in trade diplomacy, marketing, and
building strategic partnerships - with numerous
appointments, conferences and honors to his
credit. Dr. Malichi has worked on several
important trade agreements, including the North
America Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA). As a
result of his work on NAFTA, he was invited and
attended The White House signing ceremony, a
historic event that included all the living
Presidents Bill Clinton, George Bush, Jimmy
Carter, and Gerald Ford. Dr. Malichi has met
many world leaders including President Nelson
Mandela, Germany Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder,
and President Jiang of the Peoples Republic of
China, just to name a few.
A global advocate of small–and
medium-sized businesses, Dr. Malichi has been a
successful entrepreneur for more than 23 years.
In this capacity, he served a six-year term on
the Board of Directors for the U.S. Chamber of
Commerce, served as an adviser to American
Express Small Business Services and the National
Advisory Council to the U.S. Small Business
Administration. In addition, Dr. Malichi was
appointed by Indiana Senator Richard G. Lugar,
Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations
Committee, as a delegate to The White House
Conference on Small Business. Dr. Malichi also
served a six-year term on the Executive
Committee and Board of Directors of the Center
for International Private Enterprise (CIPE). Dr.
Malichi currently serves on the Boards of
Directors of the U.S. and Foreign Commercial
Services - U.S. Department of Commerce-Indiana
District Export Council; And, the U. S. Chamber
of Commerce - Small Business Council as well as
the International Policy Committee. Dr. Malichi
is an invited participant to the World Economic
Forum (WEF), and A.P.E.C.
In honor of his achievements,
Toby Malichi was bestowed with an Honorary
Doctorate Degree of Business from Vincennes
University on April 30, 2005. Dr. Malichi was
also named as a “Greater Washington Power
Player” for 2000 and 2001 by the Greater
Washington (D.C) Board of Trade. Most recently,
Dr. Malichi was one of twenty-five World
Business and Religious Leaders invited by the
governing body of Transform World Global
Ministries - to a special meeting in Kona,
Hawaii - and was selected to become an
International Focus Group Facilitator, Speaker,
and Delegate to the Transform World Indonesia
2005 and Transform World India 2006 Marketplace
and Governance Groups. Dr. Malichi will also
continue play a vital role in future Transform
World Connections - global ministerial events.

as a media spokesperson, Toby Malichi has been
interviewed by CNN, C-Span, NPR and on WorldNet
TV’s “Dialogue” of the U.S. Information Agency.
He has been quoted by the Wall Street Journal,
Business Week and USA Today as well as being

Dr. Malichi was a selected participant, official

Dialogue (TABD) Small-and Medium-Sized
Enterprises Working Group III, Co-convened by
The White House, U.S. Department of Commerce and
the European Commission Keynote speaker at the
Institute of Economic Affairs African Conference
on Corporate Governance and Sustainable
Development - Accra, Ghana (sponsored by CIPE)
for small and medium-sized enterprises and the
National Endowment for Democracy (NED). Keynote
Speaker at the National District Export
Council’s Annual Conference for the U.S. Foreign
and Commercial Service - U.S. Department of
Commerce.
Dr. Malichi was the first
African–American vice-chairman and later, the
first elected African–American chairman of the
Indiana Small Business Council, Indiana Chamber
of Commerce from 1987-1989. He served on the
executive Committee and as a board member of the
Indiana Chamber of Commerce during this time
period. Dr. Malichi also served as Chairman of
the Governors Conference on Small Business
(1989) and as a Delegate to the White House
Conference on Small Business (1986-1995).
A charismatic individual and
gifted speaker, Toby Malichi, “The Motivator”,
is in great demand as a motivational speaker,
with more than 4,000 speeches worldwide to has
credit. His original video, “attitude with Toby
Malichi” aired nationally on PBS and was
selected as “Editor’s Choice” by success
magazine, with sales in excess of 600,000
videos.
Secretary of State, Colin
Powell of the U.S. State Department invited Toby
Malichi to deliver motivational talks to high
school and college students and professors in
Grenada and Barbados. Dr. Malichi was invited
back to speak to government officials and
employees in Grenada by the Prime Minister.
Dr. Malichi is a “World
Citizen” and self–made international
entrepreneur. However, he has never forgotten
his roots. Since the fifth grade, Dr. Malichi
dreamed of contributing to world peace and
democracy - today he continues to strive toward
