For most of us it's a world of
small inconveniences. Traffic jams. Sore
throats. Burnt toast. For JEFF STEINBERG, It's a
world of major handicaps always. But does he see
himself as handicapped, unfortunate, to be
pitied? No, absolutely not!
He calls himself a
MASTERPIECE IN PROGRESS! Yet to see him, he
looks like anything BUT a masterpiece. Born
August 18, 1951, Jeff Steinberg faced life with
little hope - no arms and badly deformed legs.
He spent most of his early life in hospitals,
including Shriners' Hospital for Crippled
Children in Philadelphia, PA, where he underwent
orthopedic surgery, learned to walk with a brace
and was fitted with his first prosthetic arm. At
age nine, Jeff was placed into The Good Shepherd
Home for the Physically Handicapped in
Allentown, PA, where he lived until he was 19.
Through the love of a local
couple, Jeff discovered the truth that became
the foundation of his life: "...I am fearfully
and wonderfully made."
Jeff Steinberg is a
Masterpiece In Progress - And he wants you to
know it! He sees his disabilities as assets, not
liabilities. He is a speaker / singer, humorist
and author with a very special message; that a
real handicap is "…anything that keeps me from
being or becoming all that I was created to be!"
It is a most unique message for an entertainer,
that each person in the audience is a
"Masterpiece In Progress!"
For more than 35 years, he has
traveled more than four million miles throughout
the U.S., Canada and Europe, letting people know
that they, too, are wonderfully created with
potential they never dreamed possible. He has
performed for a variety of audiences, including
corporate events for companies that include
State Farm Insurance, Quixtar, Wachters Organic
Sea Products, Piccadilly Cafeterias and more,
Jeff enjoys performing on TV Variety Shows &
telethons. He was Co-Host for an entertaining
and informative Television Special, called "The
Best You Can Be...The Handicapped Hall of Fame.
" along with disability rights
advocate, Mary Nemec Doremus.
He has performed on "The Variety Club Telethon"
with Host Monte Hall, both in the US and CANADA;
"The National Easter Seal Telethon" with host
Pat Boone, from Hollywood, California for seven
(7) years; he was a Co-Host on the "Memphis
Easter Seal Telethon" for four (4) years and was
a Co-Host for the first annual "Lehigh Valley
Easter Seal Telethon" in 1990 raising more than
$250,000.00 to help people with disabilities. ;
High Schools and Universities including Notre
Dame University; hospitals, U.S Military troops
in Germany and churches. He has done Voice-over
advertising for commercials, demos, radio and
television.
He has performed with such names as Barbara
Mandrell, Zig Ziglar, John Goodman, Tony
Orlando, Mary C. Crowley, Petra, Jim Nabors, Ray
Charles and the list goes on. However, a true
highlight of his career was a memorable
appearance on stage and sang for Mother Teresa
of Calcutta during her 1989 U.S. visit. As you
begin to understand what a winner he really is,
you then begin to realize what a winner you can
be.
Jeff began performing professionally in 1972 ,
and has recorded several music albums, including
his latest, "Tiny Giant" on his GlovePrints
label. His autobiography, Masterpiece In
Progress, in its third printing, is published
and distributed worldwide by New Leaf Press,
Green Forrest, AR.
In 1987 Jeff Steinberg was
inducted into the Good Shepherd Hall of Fame for
Persons with Disabilities in Allentown, PA for
his achievements in the field of music, for his
advocacy for the physically challenged and for
carrying the message that everyone is a
Masterpiece In Progress.
