Crossover has quite a unique
and exciting story. Guitar player Dustin Hurst
and drummer Brian Bassett have been playing
music together for ten years. Their musical
history took them across the country opening up
for national acts like “Tantric” formerly “Days
of the New” and Virgin Records artist “The Exies”.
They gained show and tour experience by playing
shows around the world. They performed as the
featured act on a USO world tour in the Middle
East. The tour was for seven countries in
support of American and Allied forces in Kuwait,
Afghanistan, Qatar, Africa, Kyrgyzstan,
Uzbekistan, UAE and two U.S. dates in Austin,
Texas and home state Indiana. This tour would
turn out to be the beginning of what is now
Crossover.
The two met up with Army medic
and high school friend Mark Sears (keyboard) in
Afghanistan. The tour had profound purpose as
Mark Sears lost his best friend to a bomb in
Afghanistan the very same day that Dustin and
Brian’s band came to Camp Phoenix. There was a
divine significance which brought them together
the exact day their friend was in need. Later
that night they made a pledge to play music
together upon returning to the United States.
Next, they went on to find a bass player and
lead guitar player from the Indiana band 'Been
There'. This guitar players name is Pat Byers
and he is a youth pastor from Wabash, Indiana.
Pat was the front man for his band but left the
group to join forces with Crossover. Pat has
many years of experience playing guitar and
singing for bands. The bass player is Aaron
Scamihorn. He’d been playing bass with Pat’s
band and joined forces with Crossover as well.
He is a graphic designer in Indianapolis,
Indiana and does all the design work for
Crossover. He too had played in many bands and
brought experience and creativity to Crossover.
This was the start of
Crossover as a five piece Christian rock band.
They started playing local shows with Dustin
Hurst and Pat Byers doing the vocal work until
they met up with Bill Ballenger. Bill is a
Christian speaker and singer. He frequently
performs on international television and has
toured for several years including performances
in China and Russia. Bill has four solo records
to his credit and was the perfect fit to
finalize the cast of Crossover. This band has a
big resume with loads of passion and experience.
With a unique Rock style mixed with three strong
vocal harmonies, a powerful Christian message
and some featured rap lyrics from drummer Brian
Bassett; this band proves to be energetic and
powerful.
Crossover also has a powerful ministry called
Teen Rock (www.TeenRock.org).
This ministry's mission is to inspire teens to
accomplish their dreams. Since it's beginning in
2005 Teen Rock has reached thousands of students
for Christ already and is planning to expand its
outreaches in 2008. During Teen Rock events the
group holds convocations in public schools and
then has a main concert event where Crossover
performs and Bill Ballenger shares his testimony
of being in prison and then finding a life
changing relationship with Jesus Christ.
Crossover averages over a thousand in attendance
at their Teen Rock school concerts. Crossover
has select show dates for high schools and other
concert events. With their debut record to be
released winter 2008 the band continues to
perform and gain major exposure and popularity.
